Modern Proverbs

My friend and now-colleague Dale Harris has written some superb proverbs on his blog (you should read the whole thing here: http://daleblogging.blogspot.com/) Just like biblical proverbs, they are insightful, teasing, sometimes enigmatic, but always breaking open the world in new ways. Here are my favorites:
Wisdom crosses the desert with a stone beneath her tongue, slaking her thirst with her own saliva.
Narcissus and the writer: both alike stare into inky pools, searching for an echo of their experience.
Sarcasm is the protest of the weak.
Hope is a knife-edge sharpened by despair.
Sanctimony is often the child of guilt.
